It’s our TIME.
AFEMMERA (say: ah-fem-err-ah). noun: An international community of women who have always existed (and always will).
Community: We are women who love women.
Connection: We revel in our femininity.
Courage: We want to tell our own stories.
AFEMMERA was born out of a desire for connection and community with women like us.
Whether we are cis or trans, whether we identify as femme or feminine-presenting*, we're tired of stories about us lacking nuance and depth. We're bored of pressures to prove ourselves as valid members of the LGBTQ+ community. And we're sure as hell finished with explaining who we are (and how we do 'it') to the hetero. world.
We're ready to start making some serious changes around here.
Our power magnifies when we share space and stand together.
Want to join us? We'd love to hear from you! We've got big plans and we're only getting started.

Dear Queer Beauty, you are so loved and you are so welcome.
It's our time.
PS - We are here to create safe, supportive spaces for women-identified women who love women. Except for TERFs, SWERFs and anyone who practices anti-intersectional 'feminism'. If this makes you feel angry or defensive, we have a reading list we can send you x
*Feminine-presenting women who love women (cis and trans) sometimes identify as femme. We are mindful that femme has deep roots in 1950s American working-class Lesbianism. We also recognise that femme is now embraced by a wider range of gender and LGBTQ+ identities. And it is now (controversially) being borrowed by brands to sell products to audiences outside of the queer community. Cultural appropriation is a topic we’d love to unpack at one of our future meetups! But we are not here to police other people's choice of language. Self-identification is key.
